[ Whenever Ookurikara enters the kitchen next, Akane is already there! It seems like she's... Waiting? And she seems particularly pleased to see him, which is weird, given their previous rapport. But it's fine! Don't worry about it! ]

[ Yay!!! Akane picks up a book and starts flipping through it. ]

I was thinking something like this? I don't know if it's hard or not, but I just don't want to mess it up!

[ And eventually she finds the page she wanted and holds the book out for him to look at! She wants to make french onion soup in a bread bowl. Good Luck. ]

[ Honestly Ookurikara has probably never even heard of french onion soup? Let alone in a bread bowl? So uhhhh I guess we're both learning something today.

After staring at the page for a minute, though, he decides it can't be that hard - with one condition: ]

Start with regular bowls.

[ That fancy bread bowl shit can come later, when you can cook literally anything without killing someone. ]

[ I thought about that. And I thought about picking something he'd probably be more familiar with. And then I thought: NO. WE SUFFER.

Akane huffs playfully. ]

Vetoed! I picked this specifically because Minato-kun said he wanted something with bread!

[ He's just gonna ignore that for a bit while he finds the ingredients. ]

Then he can have it on the side.

[ Who the heck are they to make demands when Kara's the only one here who cooks, anyway? Take what you get and deal with it >:( ]

[ Hmmm on the side....... fair enough..... she will accept it.

And for once she's actually making herself useful and helping to get out everything the recipe book calls for! Wow! ]

Ehehe. My veto got vetoed.

[ Luckily it doesn't seem like the most complicated of recipes? So, once they've got everything, he'll pull out a cutting board and a knife, and set them in front of Akane. ]

Cut the onions.

Except it only takes her like halfway through a single onion before she's getting all watery-eyed and sniffling and getting really annoyed by it. And she's obnoxious too, like, sniffling loudly and then going 'weeeh' and things like that. ]

[ The garlic is ready by the time she gets to this point, but Kara continues to ignore her for a bit, as he adds butter and oil to a pot and sets it on the stove. The burner stays off, though, because they need the onions to be ready - so when he finally turns to Akane to see her Like That, he rolls his eyes and slides the cutting board over to his side of the counter, pulling out another knife to do the slicing himself. She won't make much of a cook if she lets a few onions get the better of her. ]

How do you handle this part? This part sucks.

[ Why even bother cooking if you're going to have to get snively at onions?! ... Her tone sure changes fast, at the first inconvenience. ]

Breathe through your mouth.

[ It's.... not a perfect solution, but it works, for the most part. Anyway he'll finish slicing the onions himself because it's just faster that way, and leave them there while he goes to turn on the stove. ]

[ She's still being very obnoxious about it with lots of whimpering and whining, but at least it seems to just be because she has no self control and not purposefully trying to annoy him?

... Maybe it doesn't make a difference. ]

So, how did you learn to cook? Just from books?

[ He's just going to try to ignore the sniffling, as long as Akane's hands stay clean. they've got to wait for the butter to melt, though, so until then, he sets the wine and broth in front of her with the simple order: ]

Measure what we'll need for it.

[ And then keep an eye on the pot, so he can toss the onions in when it's ready. After a few moments, he'll finally answer. ]

I learned from my former master. Not books.

See? So learning from a person is way better than learning from a book!
