[Val is usually pretty calm when it comes to people dying around him. He's old. It happens.
But that's his partner and his blood is boiling. This wasn't a natural death, somebody went for what was his and it's not a feeling he likes. It's a reminder that he can't always protect what he wants to.
He's in the middle of the fire area, sparking a fire in his hand and turning it back off. Over and over.]

[ Akane recognizes the voice, so she's willing to assume it's for her. She also trusts Valvatorez enough--and is lazy enough--to just call back instead of getting up to answer the door: ]
[He doesn't speak up. The door's open right now and she can find him on the edge of the bed looking off into the distance. Physically he's just fine. Emotionally it's like he's completely drained.]
[ It looks like Akane wasn't actually in the library looking for Valvatorez, this time! She's got a book in one hand that it looks like she's trying to find the spot for on the shelf so she can return it now that she's finished it.
But she veers off from the romance section when she sees Val! ]
[If Akane goes looking for Val after the mermaid incident, he can be found in the boutique. By then he's changed into his usual clothes, cape draped over himself. The bandages are hidden away, but he doesn't look that willing to move from his space for... a while.
[ Hey Val. Akane is sitting in... The back of a row of books in the library? Just curled up on herself, like maybe this was just the first isolated corner she could find and was closer to the meeting hall than her own house. ]
[The good(?) news is that Val often finds himself here when he needs to research. So when he sees Akane, he settles down next to her and waits for her to initiate conversation.]
[ You know what, Akane actually. Trusts. Valvatorez enough to openly seek him out and openly ask what's on her mind?? It's kind of weird. Like, it shouldn't be, but it is. So she approaches him.
[ Akane blinks, startling back and refocusing her gaze so that she's not looking him in the eyes anymore. Not out of awkwardness but just to avoid giving or taking a second memory.
[All these Avatars are doing are slowing his progress. Even if Val can fight alone, he's never preferred it. There's something comforting about having at least one other person on the field with him, regardless of how well they can fight.]
